October State of Mind

When I'm
in an October
state of mind

I'm looking
to find time
to relax, unwind,
climb into a corner
and write what
makes me a 
quintessential 
performer

When I'm
in an October
state of mind

I want jazz,
new journeys,
clear visions 
into the fall

about travel,
conversations,
the makings 
of what is 
an ongoing
movement
for the people's 
elevation,
improvement

When I'm 
in an October
state of mind

I'm looking to design
opportunities where we
come together 
in committed unity 
to address the nation's
problems; to think about
ways a collective can
embark on actions for
justice; to say all of
the things we need to
say about the circles
and the melting pots
we belong to 

because ultimately, 
we are all one

We are all one
under the sun
hoping for, 
dreaming of
a better world

Because our colors
are diverse like 
autumn colors

we are people, sisters,
brothers

We are brown, black,
yellow, red, white, we
are the universe's delight.

We all have talents, gifts,
abilities. We are creative 
beings possessing palettes 
who can color this world
amazing; in that way we
are trailblazing. 

We are communicating
in profound ways because
in us we can see better days,
we can see everyone getting
along, we can devise platforms
where we all belong.

This is the universal 
October state of mind
crafted, generated in a time
when politics and hate causes
division. But we don't have to
participate or listen.

We can use color to envision
new systems of democracy.

Let this be our new philosophy
because the world is not at all
a pale gray! It is a blank canvas
ready for all of our contributions.

An October
state of mind
is the solution!
