White Tears - a poem by Christopher D. Sims
She told me
she did not
trust their
tears
who could
blame her?
'cause for
years
white people
white women
have been crying
are those tears
lying about their
true feelings?
are white people
willing to turn
those tears into
action, into change,
into movements,
into revolutions,
into solutions,
into monetary
distributions,
into conclusions
where we see
real equity?
white tears
can be appealing,
but what are they
really revealing?
are they tears
of healing?
are they tears
of real hurt, pain,
concern?
are those tears,
your tears, about
real concern?
because of
your crying,
what have you
really learned?
should we expect
hope, optimism?
how you have
been affected by
racism over the
years
when we see
those white
tears?
